The building in which our gallery is located was constructed as the residence of the Ikebana (Japanese traditional flower arrangement) master she existed after World War II. The timeworn concrete walls even have a warm feeling, and the glass-enclosed atrium wears the atmosphere of Japanese modernism.

Once called the “Castle of Flowers,” the building has been a salon for prominent artists and business executives, and has also accumulated history in Minami Aoyama, accompanying the city and people's lifestyles as they have changed with the times.

In the spring of 2025, it will be revived again as a castle of art where modern individuality and sensibility can flourish while maintaining the space of the original.

Luis H. Francia

The Sahara of I is an intimate event that brings together a poetry reading by the internationally acclaimed poet Luis H. Francia and live cello performance, creating a space for quiet attentiveness and shared presence.

Luis H. Francia is a Filipino American poet and essayist whose works have been published widely in the United States and around the world. Through language that balances sharpness and stillness, his poetry explores themes of migration, memory, the body, and spirituality.

His poems are taught in universities and have received sustained international recognition through literary awards and invitations to major festivals over many years.

The reading will be accompanied by Japanese interpretation by Midori Yamamura, who carefully conveys the nuances, rhythm, and breath of the poems. Cellist Keisuke Sakura, who is active across a wide range of artistic fields including film, music videos, and musical theater while also dedicating himself to education and ensemble coaching, will offer live cello music that gently inhabits the spaces between the words.

In the final part of the evening, DJ Yummy, the gallery’s director, will curate a calm and reflective selection of music, inviting guests to linger and share conversation while savoring the lingering resonance of words and sound.

We invite you to enjoy this rich and resonant experience shaped by poetry and music.

In 2012, Takeshi Furuki was invited by a friend to attend Burning Man for the first time.
Hearing that the event was a celebratory space sustained by the creative expressions of each individual participant, he decided to make his own dress—despite having absolutely no experience with sewing.

The dress he created quickly gained attention among participants from all over the world. Walking the desert day and night in his distinctive appearance, Furuki soon became an icon—almost instantly transforming into a legendary piece of living art.

In the years that followed, Furuki continued his activities quietly and steadily, without actively promoting his work outside the community.
After witnessing this cycle for more than a decade, a group of fellow members came together to form the Takeshi Furuki Ecological Research Society, and decided to organize, for the first time, an exhibition where anyone could observe and take part in Furuki’s work.

It should be noted that Furuki himself has no knowledge of the exhibition’s contents until the day it opens.
